Global Health

CERGAS embraces Koplan's definition of Global Health (GH) as an area of study, research, and practice focused on improving health and achieving health equity worldwide.

The Global Health area is dedicated to improving health systems around the world, with a special emphasis on the Global South and Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). Our mission is to generate high-quality evidence on health system performance and to evaluate policies and interventions that enhance health outcomes and improve equitable access to care. Through our studies and partnerships, we aim to empower governments, and organizations to improve the performance of health systems, as well as to build capacity in national academic institutions to carry out rigorous research.

Our research in GH is supported by commercial partners, international organizations, philanthropic institutions,  national governments. In EU-funded and international projects we also collaborate with other academic institutions, research organizations, global and national NGOs on these topics.

Our studies encompass a wide range of focus areas, including infectious diseases, maternal, child, adolescent health, and immunization programs. As the global health landscape evolves, we are also tackling emerging issues such as the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases (e.g., obesity-related conditions) and the growing importance of mental health in LMICs.

To date, we have completed or are actively conducting projects in various regions across the globe, with special focus on Africa. Our work spans multiple countries, including  Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Guinea, Niger, Rwanda, Honduras, and Thailand.

WHAT WE DO

We focus on developing tools and providing evidence that supports the implementation of impactful health technologies and interventions. Below are some of the key areas where we contribute:

  • Developing Value Dossiers and Business Cases for Disruptive Health Technologies

  • Cost and Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of Health Technologies for LMICs

  • Evaluating the Impact of Multisectoral approaches to address Mental Health and Psychosocial Support

  • Assessing the Impact of innovative Public-private Partnerships to address the Challenge of Non-communicable Diseases
