Abstract

In this presentation the speaker will discuss key initiatives that the U.S. has adopted to improve the quality of patient care, principally public reporting and pay-for-performance. The speaker will present selected findings from related research studies that he and others have conducted to assess the impact of such initiatives. The presentation will also consider theoretical perspectives that draw attention to the limitations of these initiatives to improve quality of care in the U.S. and elsewhere.
