CERGAS Seminar "From Performance Evaluation to Organizational Models (and Vice Versa) in Healthcare Systems."

The seminar aims to explore the interplay between data analysis on performance and the study of organizational models, raising critical questions and providing insights for reflection.

In recent years, the evolution of information systems and the growing focus on performance measurement have led to the inclusion of new evaluation dimensions, such as user feedback and healthcare system resilience. However, at both national and international levels, the implementation of organizational models and programs often occurs without an adequate monitoring system to assess their effectiveness. Conversely, leveraging well-established evaluation systems that provide longitudinal measurements of performance dynamics proves to be a more effective approach to understanding the overall impact of adopted policies.

During the seminar, studies and qualitative-quantitative evidence will be presented to support these reflections, with policy and managerial implications as well as further research for academics.

Speaker:

Milena Vainieri is a Full Professor of Management at the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa (SSSA), where she has been leading the Management and Healthcare Laboratory since May 2019. She has served as the scientific coordinator of the performance evaluation system for the Tuscany healthcare system since 2014 and of the interregional network since 2019. She has participated in numerous national and international research projects on healthcare governance mechanisms. She has been invited as an expert for projects led by the European Commission across various directorates (DG Employment, DG REGIO, and DG Reform). Additionally, she has been appointed by the Italian Ministry of Health as an expert for monitoring the Pandemic plan (Panflu), as National Project Manager for the OECD’s PaRIS project, and as a board member of the National Agency for Healthcare (Agenas).

Her research interests focus on healthcare performance evaluation and governance mechanisms. She has authored over 50 articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals.
