Mortality

This project is intended to investigate CoVID-19 mortality and its determinants, considering direct and indirect deaths -those not due to the virus infection, but anticipated or caused by the lack of adequate treatment due to healthcare system capacity saturation during the emergency period. The project will complement the research efforts of other teams with the aim to provide a comprehensive interpretation of the CoVID-19 impact in Italy and globally through an interdisciplinary approach and pursuing the following specific objectives:

  1. To systematically review existing literature on CoVID-19 mortality and related risk factors and, where possible, perform a meta-analysis. There is not a specific geographic focus for this objective.
  2. To monitor the timing of release of data on all-cause mortality and CoVID-19 mortality since the onset of the pandemic and create a descriptive timeline to assess the appropriateness and limitation of surveillance measures and evaluate how data availability (and unavailability) has affected decision making in Italy.
  3. To assess the indirect effect of CoVID-19 on other pathologies, looking at the case of cardiovascular diseases.
