Abstract: 

The overarching aim of the ShareView project (Supporting shared decision-making and communication in metastatic breast cancer) was to improve the quality of care of breast cancer (BC) patients by investigating communication, information and shared decision-making practices across Europe. 

More specifically, the project was aimed at working on three specific objectives: 

1. to map approaches and practices, their diffusion and uptake, adopted to incorporate patient individual views about treatment options and how they wish decisions to be made; 

2. to develop and pilot test a web-based treatment decision aid to support shared decision-making in BC setting; 

3. to provide knowledge and education to patients, caregivers, family members and stakeholders in the care pathway and in the organization of healthcare services on how to ensure patient involvement, patient engagement and participation in a truly shared decision-making process.  

Ultimately, the goal is to facilitate health care systems and providers to engage patients, their caregivers and families in shared decision-making, and areas of interest (i.e., patient education, shared treatment goals, and engagement in decision making)
